The Return of Sports…and Sports Betting

With Major League Baseball and the NBA starting up by the end of the month, and the NHL starting shortly afterwards, this is the best time to prepare for the return of sports…and sports betting. I know there are other sports wagering blogs and touts out there but this blog is designed to be different. I’ll be focusing on 3 things that are not always commonplace in this environment.

1) Honesty
2) Accountability
3) Transparency

Honesty

It’s easy to be dishonest and claim that my bets win 75% of the time or more. Making claims that I’ve won 20 bets in a row. It’s exciting. But it’s also too good to be true and pure nonsense. To break even and overcome a -110 odds (Laying $110 for every $100) we will need to win 52.4% of the time. My goal is to come out 54–57% ahead by the end of each season. Although it may not be an exciting number it is a fair and honest goal to hit.

Transparency

My bets will be very transparent. I will be listing my bets on here ahead of time for everybody to see. I plan on reflecting on what went right and, more importantly, what went wrong after each day of wagers. By doing so I’ll be held accountable. Rather than dust the mistakes under the rug to hype up what went well I’d rather get it all out into the open so we can improve from there.

I don’t intend to sell any of my picks to you. I’m not going to list a few picks and then ask for money to get my “5 Star Lock of the Week Big Money Maker!!!” My plan is to put out there the best bets for each sport and hope to reward anyone following this blog by winning some money. The pressure of losing my own money and being responsible for you losing yours will motivate me to lay off from bets that seem too good to be true. And for the sake of honesty and transparency I want my numbers to look as good as possible.

Accountability

I plan on running a constant win-loss individually for each sport. Not only win-loss-push but also units wagered. For example lets say I make 3 wagers in baseball and their lines are -220, -150, and +100. I win the -150 bet (laying $150 to win $100) and I win the +100 bet but lose the -220 bet. Although I ended the day 2–1 I actually lost money by winning $100 on the first two games but losing $220 on the heavy favorite. So I would be 2–1…
